Hi! I'm Liz Wright, the founder and creative force behind Assembly.

I launched this exciting venture in Portland, Oregon back in 2016, driven by a simple mission: to bring people together through creativity. Since then, thousands of people have joined our beginner-friendly workshops—turning crafting into a joyful, social experience that’s as much about connection as it is about creation.

It all started with pop-up events at local breweries and coffee shops, where crafting met community in a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. Before long, we found a permanent home in a beautiful, light-filled studio in Portland’s vibrant Clinton-Division neighborhood. There, a talented team of local makers shared their skills, and we built a thriving, close-knit community of craft lovers and creative explorers.

In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way we gathered, I pivoted to offer virtual workshops via Zoom, making it possible for people to keep creating and connecting from the comfort of home.

Over the next couple of years, we adapted by offering a mix of virtual and in-person classes—meeting people where they were and honoring the evolving guidelines and comfort levels during an unprecedented time.

In 2022, I made the big decision to close the Portland studio and relocate with my family to Las Cruces, New Mexico—a fresh chapter filled with sunshine, inspiration, and new creative possibilities.

While settling into our new home, I continued to grow Assembly’s online offerings, expanding into video classes and live virtual private classes—especially for corporate team-building events. At the same time, I began planting roots in my new community, blending my love for creativity with the spirit of connection that’s always been at the heart of Assembly.

In 2025, I found the perfect new home for Assembly Craft Studio in the charming town of Mesilla, New Mexico—just minutes from Las Cruces. I’m thrilled to bring Assembly’s signature in-person workshops back to life in this beautiful, inspiring space!
