Begin your basket making journey by learning the simple beauty of the wrapped coiling technique.
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll start out by discussing our star material for the day: raffia! It’s an amazing plant fiber that is strong and pliable and available in its natural state or dyed to provide pops of color in your work.
Next we’ll get started on our baskets and talk about sizing, shaping, and creating patterns. Once you’ve mastered the coiling technique, you’ll get in the flow and relax through the repetitive motion.
While you likely won't finish your basket in class (unless you want to make a really tiny one), we'll wrap up with a demonstration of how to complete those last final steps when you're ready. Apply the same techniques in the future to create larger and differently shaped bowls, trays, and baskets.
No experience required for this basket weaving class and all supplies provided.
